To Diary
Another fun, action-packed day for a shufuo-kun. Spent a long time reworking a spreadsheet itinerary for my parents’ trip to Japan in March. Also did some town errands and finally posted off all the thank-you letters to NZ, including some maps for David.
Note: shufuo is slang for house husband
This article on news.com about Fingerprinting P2P Pirates seems just plain silly. It talks about software that can look inside packets to see what content is being transmitted. The next step would be to block peer to peer trading. Umm fellas, what does the software think about this?
rsync -Pav -e ssl from_location user@server:to_location
Instead of spending all this money on trying to sue P2P into oblivion (Napster) or technologically stop users, how about Hollywood actually gives the consumer what we want - a legal way to get music over the ‘net at a fair price? I heard that of the $15 spent on a CD, less than $2 actually ends up in the pocket of the artist (correct me if I’m wrong). What happens to the other $13? Also when downloading music the user pays for receiving the file (bandwidth/net time), and doesn’t receive storage media or any printed information. Solve these issues without making it so obvious you’re ripping us off, and I’ll be sold. Ignore or try to block the net and you will loose (revenue, your job…)
