I’ve been having a CSS nightmare day, trying to make an all-CSS layout. The code is clean and validates as XHTML Strict, and the CSS validates too. It looks perfect on (the browser formerly known as) Chimera and Safari. And for some reason the layout is screwed on IE 5.2. I just can’t understand why - there aren’t any bugs that I can find which only apply to negative left margins for divs but not to blockquotes for IE 5.2 (!). To make matters worse IE 5.2 refuses to display the borders I’ve added to trouble-shoot the boxes, although it displays some other borders (again on a blockquote) fine. I’m gonna go sniff glue like Zeldman suggested - CSS is enough to drive anyone crazy! I’m planning to go back to a tables layout if I can’t get things to work tomorrow morning, as it’s due next Monday. Here’s hoping! On the brighter side we’ll hopefully get the text for the magazine I’ve been asked to ‘webalize’, saving Miwa some typing (!).

I’ve got a busy schedule for the next few days: Thursday teaching in Ise-Nakagawa, Friday going to Nagoya for Visa stuff and shopping/errands, and Saturday teaching then going to Ryan’s (my successor in Miyagawa). I’ll get home again Sunday in time for some final web stuff, then we’re into a hectic next week. Should be fun - hope the web stuff goes ok!
