To Diary

Saturday was a very good day. In the morning I was rippin’ it up with my kiddies’ classes - they really loved Mr Wolf (although the older, mainly boys class still can’t resist the urge to attack - sigh). I’m really looking forward to getting the class sizes down and having to think/plan less when we start using textbooks.

After that I managed to sort out new tyres from Alpha Auto in Tamaki - thank God! Of my old four, three were down to the fabric, including the punctured one, and one of those was down to the metal. They really do have steel in them huh ;-) I swapped my 17” wide/fat rims for some similar new ones (white and looking a little old skool, but cool enough for me) plus tyres, for a mere 20,000yen. Sweet! This compares favourably with 86,000yen for non-low profile tyres for the fat rims, or 56,000yen for new standard rims and tyres. The new tyres are still wide but a little less low profile.

I still can’t decide between buying the cheapest fax (26,000yen) or buying a Brother MyMio (50,000yen). Is the extra money worth getting a color scanner/printer/photocopier rolled into one? Meiwa Jusco’s Joshin staff were useless - they didn’t have comparable sample pages and couldn’t tell me how the scan/print quality compared to stand-alone printers or scanners. Decisions!

I finally came home in the evening (after a good chat with Miwa’s unkle - my first real one cos of his hard-core oji Japanese). It seems the more time I spend away, the more I like this apartment! It really does make a difference that it’s our place, even though we’re renting it. As Japabese bridal companies would say Happy new life! ;-) Simple things like cooking dinner become uncommonly happy. Weird. But good!

Sunday is the day - I have to get the templates for the Kumano Forum website finished today - there won’t be any time for the next two weeks. I’ve been reading about web stuff voraciously recently, normally following links from NetNewsWire. Time to put some of it into practice. I really need a copy of Jeffrey Zeldman’s new book now though! June 5? I’ll have learned it all by then!! ;-)
