Googles link: operator, wildcards, and Kurts weblog

I was playing around with Goole today and discovered something interesting. I was reading about Google Hacks and jokingly did a search on my ‘mindshare’ for boblet. I was surprised to see my blog show up prominently, because I haven’t really told anyone about it, mainly because it’s so newbie ;-) I also didn’t know of any inbound links, but figured there would have to be one for the site to get listed by Google.

So I started playing around with the link: search operator, doing a bunch of searches for any links here. I couldn’t find any - hrmm. I then tried searches for just the url text, and turned up a link from Kurt Easterwood’s blog, hmmmm.

Why didn’t Google’s link: operator return this? I started playing around with various URL changes, and finally came across the correct one. I needed a wildcard “*” in front of my weblog’s URL, however there’s nothing in front of the blog’s URL in Kurt’s link that should require wildcarding. Is this strange or what?
