To Apple
I’m impressed that Apple has led the industry in offering easy and legal music downloads. I’m surprised that no one has done it sooner. Given it’s US-only, I can’t try it out, but it certainly looks like it’ll break the RIAA stance in two.
I’m disappointed that they didn’t choose Ogg Vorbis (they’ve opted for AAC, or MPEG-4). I wonder if the licensing fees were mitigated by record labels’ insistience on using something proprietary?
The funniest bit is the blurb for the “all new iPod”. They say
Building on the success of the touch wheel, the new iPod has been re-engineered with a [sic] all-touch interface for enhanced durability and sensitivity.
So the previous interface used touch and what exactly? Considering they merely moved 4 buttons, I’m not sure how much hyperbole this redesign can hold ;-)
