To Weblogging
I’m slowly getting MT set up the way I want. I want to do as much configuration as possible before I start the design process. Today’s fun has been in checking out plugins. But first, a recap…
Yesterday I changed from numerical archives like http://oli.boblet.net/archives/000085.html to date+name archives like http://oli.boblet.net/2003/08/04/ive_changed_weblogging_software. This makes my URLs far more informative. Luckily the dirify
option strips out HTML as well as punctuation.
However I still think I’d like to be able to make the file name different to the page’s title, mainly because the filename (and resulting URL) should be concise, but sometimes the title must be long. For example in a commercial job I did one title was three lines long!). I’d also like to make titles that include a <span>, to create a sub-title, to de-emphasise less important information in a long title. I was investigating Brad Choate’s MTKeyValues plugin, in the hopes of using it to add a URL/filename tag to the “Extended Entry” tag. However, I’m too newbie to know how to implement this, or even if it’s possible.
Apart from that I also looked at the MT Plugins website, which has a huge range. So far I’ve only installed Smarty Pants, but I’m keen to install MTCodeBeautifier, if only it supported any of the languages I want to display (namely CSS and HTML). Files to port are available at theBeautifier homepage, but converting looks non-trivial (from PHP to Perl?). Maybe someone will do it before I can ;-)
OK, now I’ll have to start thinking about a design. Hrm…
